First Time Home Buyer Tips
August 27, 2012

As a first time home buyer, one of the many decisions you must make is determining which house is the best house to become your "home".
The first step is choosing your new neighborhood. Make a list of the things you "must have" in a neighborhood, the "would like to haves" as well as the "don't wants". Remember, more than likely you will have to make compromises. Researching the nearby school system is important for anyone looking for a home, as a great school system raises your property value. If you have children or are planning a family, search for a neighborhood that is close to parks or recreation centers. Next, research and determine what type of home that you are looking for. Are you looking for an apartment, single-family home or a townhouse? How far are you willing to commute to work? Would you like to live in a gated community, a historic neighborhood or a new development?
Once you have picked out a couple of neighborhoods, start choosing what types of features you would like in your new home. Make the same list of "must haves", "would like to haves" and "don't wants" that you made when choosing your neighborhood. Such as, the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, homes with a garage or a pool. Take into consideration the types of homes that are available. For instance, some first time home buyers like to start with multiple family dwellings, so that they will have some rental income to help with the costs of their new home.
While house hunting, take lots of notes about what you have seen, viewing several homes at a time can become confusing. Organize a "home comparison chart" to organize your thoughts and impressions as an aid to organize your search.
Most importantly, make it fun! Imagine yourself serving dinners in your new home, your children playing in the backyard and the many memories that you will create throughout the years in your new "home".
