Chinese Drywall Adding to Homeowner Woes

Chinese Drywall continues to rear its ugly head, as homeowners across the country are renting homes while their dream homes are being stripped down in order to replace the contaminated materials.

Nearly 36,000 Florida homeowners have reported deteriorating pipes and wires, respiratory problems and a 'rotten-egg' odor permeating through-out the rooms of the home. Health concerns have not been confirmed by the Florida Department of Health, results are pending an air quality test that was performed on a house in Parkland, Broward County, Florida, last week.

Concerns have been raised by homeowners in regards to the stability of the homes after they have been repaired, however, GL Homes, a builder out of Broward County, is hiring experts to certify that the homes are being repaired correctly and are offering one-year warranties on the repairs. Monthly compensations are being provided by the company to homeowners that find themselves looking for a place to live while their homes are under repair.

Amongst the many conferences held with government officials, lawyers, insurers and scientists, the issues surrounding Chinese Drywall are still so new that there have been no uniform standards drawn up at the moment; therefore, each builder is handling circumstances differently.

As the weather gets hotter, more cases of the contaminated drywall are surfacing; perhaps this is because the volatile sulfur compounds appear when the drywall is exposed to extreme heat and moisture. If you believe your home was built with Chinese Drywall, contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center website, they can point you in the right direction.
