Chinese drywall - a cause for concern to Florida Home Buyers

It turns out that during the housing "Boom" here in Florida there was a shortage of building materials available. Truss plants, plywood manufacturers, door plants were all pushed to their limits. As a way of by passing these problems, drywall was imported from China.

Michael Foreman, head of construction consulting firm Foreman & Associates in Sarasota, Florida, said Florida ports alone took in enough of that drywall during 2006 and the first two months of 2007 to build 30,000 homes.

It was first thought this problem was limited to south Florida. But there are now reports from Alabama, Louisiana and other areas of Florida that are being investigated.

Even though the problem seems uncommon, you should consult your home inspector about this potential issue.
